Koi Restaurant
The main challenge for this restaurant was adapting the design concept to the existing space. The client's goal was to make minimal architectural changes to the space. The architect in turn, added elements independent of the space without changing the integral architecture, such as the wooden partitions and the lattice ceiling decoration. Paul Gregory and Michael Cummings of Focus Lighting created simple, yet elegant lighting solutions that enhanced the environment of the space without making ma [...]
Charlie Palmer at the Joule
Texas is the nation's top producer of wind energy, leading Focus Lighting to incorporate a natural yet mechanical theme into the restaurant lighting for Charlie Palmer's Steakhouse at the Joule Hotel. The lazily spinning turbines, in their glowing platinum ceiling coves, impart a sense of graceful tranquility to the dining room. The adjacent walls feature walnut vertical [...]
The Social House at Treasure Island
The interior design for Social House, the popular Las Vegas sushi restaurant, was inspired by ancient Japanese fishing villages. Focus Lighting used light to accentuate texture, enhance color, and focus the patrons’ attention to its many unique features. Although lighting is a critical element in this design, it was decided early on that lighting fixtures should be conceled as much as possible. A great deal of coordination with the design architect, AvroKO, allowed for the tight integration [...]

Wukesong, Beijing Arena
As a part of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Focus Lighting developed a concept for the Wukesong Arena inspired by a significant symbol in Chinese culture, the lotus flower. Surrounded by a pool, vertical ribbons of undulating, perforated metal envelop the large glass structure, extending from the top of the building to below the surface of the water. Each ribbon is lit along its entire length with color changing LEDs, creating a delicate, shimmering layer of color upon which the entire building appe [...]
Marcus Center for the Performing Arts
The Marcus Center for the Performing Arts is one of the Midwest’s premier theater venues. To make the building more iconic, a concept was developed that revolved around bathing the exterior facade in washes of colored light. This light shifts in color and pattern, creating a work of kinetic art on the building. The strong building designed by architect Harry Weiss and the sensitive colors that are found within local artist Georgia O’Keefe’s work inspired the designs that paint the building [...]

100th Anniversary of the Times Square Ball
The theme for the 100th anniversary of the Times Square Ball was “Let There Be Light” so the goal was obvious – to create a sparkling “gem” more colorful, dynamic, and earth-friendly than ever before. The ball’s triangular crystals had to sparkle as much when viewed from 500ft away as they did 10ft away. This was achieved utilizing energy-efficient red, green, blue, and white LEDs with specially designed mirrored baffles and with double facetted crystals - creating incredible sparkle [...]

Beach Club
Lighting was integral to creating a warm luminous environment for this multi-use club overlooking the Atlantic Ocean on the New Jersey Shore. The main floor, Restaurant Avenue boasts a broad interior with 18 foot ceilings. But through use of gentle lighting treatments at the ceiling and column coves, and the addition of internally glowing resin panels which embrace several seating areas, each area of the restaurant allows patrons to experience a wonderful intimacy around their dining group while [...]
Carlton Hotel
The architectural concept was to use imagery of the landmarked building facade throughout the design we were able to call upon the one time grandeur of the existing hotel and revive it's faded elegance. This concept culminates in the water feature where a show happens every 5, 10 or 15 minutes revealing an over sized image of the building exterior facade from the early 1900's (printed on theatrical scrim fabric) behind the textured glass panel. Alternately the image slowly transforms into a f [...]

Le Cirque 2000
Modern, surreal interiors within landmark architecture meld to create Le Cirque 2000. Our goal was to accent the fantastic design while enhancing the beautiful existing structure. As the building's landmark status prohibited any attachment to the existing framework, our solution was to use the new architectural elements as light sources, creating ambient glows and highlights. Numerous examples of these creative techniques for internal illumination can be found throughout the restaurant. The G [...]
Le Cirque 2006
The challenge for this space was to overcome the business-like feel of the chrome and glass architecture by wrapping the restaurant with soft light. Fabric panels over the expansive windows were backlit to create a glowing field around the room. A 50? diameter internally illuminated lamp-shade chandelier adds flattering light and provides positions to spotlight the tables below. The bar consists of “magic boxes of light” that appear and disappear behind its one-way mirrored façade, and [...]

The marketing program required changing the "light color" of t [...]
