The Challenge was to integrate art, light and architecture into a multi-use corporate headquarters, showroom and engineering workplace. Using only LED’s, two 30′ long entry portals celebrate the transition from the main lobby into the engineering offices created with controllable LED back lighting of resin embedded with fiber optics. The portal becomes an immersive environment of color and light as the customer passes through it.An office with no ceiling would provide a clear view to the changing sky, in this situation our sky is a color changing rear illuminated ceiling that wraps behind the reception desk and the elevator lobby feature wall and simulates the movement of clouds. A “Video Wall-Wash” illuminates the lobby side walls showing the clients completed projects, all lobby walls and portals are delineated by an illuminated reveal. The 20″ long linear color changing uplighting on 28″ centers over each engineering station creates a repetitive architectural “color beam” in the patrons long view and a user controllable color changing environment for the worker. The showroom – meeting room space features movable displays accented with colorful perimeters. Each display shows how to best use another of the client lighting products. The showroom is surrounded in backlit sheers to provide a clean colorful background to set off the products. The project was designed, computer modeled and mocked up to be 80% illuminated with LED’s for their long life and high efficiency. Currently fluorescent are used for some task lighting but will be replaced by LED’s shortly.
