Ink 48
Once a large printing factory in Manhattan’s Midtown West, this piece of old New York is now the site of Ink 48, a boutique hotel presented by Kimpton Hotels. The luxury hotel brand collaborated with the design team at Rockwell Group and architect Carlos Zappata to transform the warehouse into a chic urban retreat. The architectural lighting design at Ink 48 draws on the industrial nature of the site and complements the bold patterns and textures found throughout the space. Subtle lighting details and selective highlighting accentuates the juxtaposition of the original raw materials and modern design elements. Guests are greeted by a backlit glass wall behind the reception desk and are surrounded by uplit building original columns. The expansive lobby living room provides an open and inviting space for guests. Its richly colored furnishings are accented by halogen spotlights and are contrasted by stacked stone walls that are grazed with light to emphasize their texture. The lounge booths along the lobby façade present guests with a cozy spot to see and be seen. Each booth is outfitted with custom call buttons that that illuminate to request service – a unique twist on modern hospitality.
