Nobu – Las Vegas

Nobu Las Vegas, located in the Hard Rock Hotel, maintains a rich diversity of natural elements and sparkling accents. A luminous ceiling crafted of thin pieces of ash exists over a large part of the restaurant. Decorative abstract patterns created with chopstick-like materials graced the soft glow of the ceiling. This gentle radiance caps the space.

Up-lights atop the framing create reflecting light, evenly illuminating the canopy and giving the space a warm glow. Tables under the canopy are accented with MR-16 fixtures hidden in the gap between the two ceiling pieces. These accents add dimension to faces and sparkle to the tables and food.

Chefs are framed by a black river-rock wall, streaked from below on the ends by in-round MR-16s and washed from above by a festoon-lamp strip concealed in a cove. A lowing onyx bar dye is lit with dimming fluorescence so brightness can be controlled while evenly illuminating the surface. Meanwhile, sushi chefs dressed in white work in front of a brightly-lit green tile wall. Forty-five MR-16′s recessed and on track fixtures light the sushi counter, preparation area and wall.

Continuing to support a natural look, a series of lighting columns were constructed of birch tree trunks and Ash wood branches. Pockets of dark bamboo are grazed from above and below by MR-16 fixtures highlighting the texture. The up-lit bamboo adds height to the space by disappearing into the ceiling and appearing to be “never ending.”

With all the elements combined, Nobu brings one the feeling of natural comfort and yet maintains a savvy ambiance.
